All of our vehicles are Hyundai Sonata hybrids, with an EPA rating of 35 city mpg. Our owner, David Jung, says he considered buying all-electric vehicles but a full recharge can take up to eight hours, making them impractical for an around-the-clock taxi service. Besides, he says Hawaii’s electricity is mostly generated from oil. “The electric vehicle is only as good as what you’re using to generate the electricity,” says Jung, an attorney for more than 20 years.

His business plan was simple: change the paradigm of the cab business. Up until now in Honolulu, cab companies served as a dispatching service – you call a batch of numbers, they call one of their independently contracted cars to pick you up. Every dollar that driver charges you goes into his or her pocket, giving them all the incentive to take their time and the long way home.
At EcoCab Hawaii, all of our employees are professionally trained and receive a salary. Each driver has gone through education programs regarding driving safety, local knowledge, Hawaiian culture, basic Japanese and Korean languages, and are certified in CPR and first aid. You can be assured that you're being served by the finest in Honolulu.
Since launching on September 1, 2012, EcoCab Hawaii has experienced substantial growth in ridership due to the overwhelming acceptance of its business concept / model by the public and press. Our commitment is to redefine the taxi industry service standard by employing professionals distinguished by integrity of character operating the cleanest, most technologically advanced vehicles.
